All submissions must meet the following requirements.
Systematic Review, Case Study, Randomized Control Trial, or Descriptive Research of the student’s choice. Submissions must be no more than 3,000 words in length (not including references) and written in AMA style. Articles should not be submitted in other journals or pending review for any other journals.
If you would like to submit a research submission, please first e-mail a 250 word abstract and five key words to tjournal@cougarnet.uh.edu so Tourniquet staff can confirm experts are available throughout the editorial process.
Submissions should describe a situation in modern medicine and the overall impact on the Texan population. This can include medically related politics, education,
technology, or business management. Submissions must be between 500 and 3,000 words in length and written in APA style.
This is exactly what it sounds like! If you feel particularly inspired by a professor or faculty member of your medical school, please record an interview, and provide a transcript that both of you would be willing to submit. Submissions should be below 2,000 words and include a photograph in PNG or JPG format of you with your interviewee.
Bring your full creative energy and submit a piece or pieces in the format of narrative medicine, Opinion piece, or Poetry. If you submit a visual piece (photography or media), submit it in PNG or JPG format with a brief written description (less than 250 words) to be published alongside your piece. If you are submitting a poem, please keep it to less than one page, typed. All other submissions should be between 500 and 3,000 words and written in APA format.
Pieces submitted to this section of the journal will not be edited. They can be submitted without identifying information of the author.
There are no length or stylistic guidelines to content. Pieces can be submitted in written or visual art format, ensuring technical requirements are maintained. However! Pieces are subject to stringent review prior to selection. No pieces advocating violence, racism, xenophobia or other harmful context will be tolerated.
Tourniquet will publish submitted works while allowing authors to maintain copyright privilages and ownership of their submissions. If an artist or individual would like their submission taken down, please contact the editorial staff. In the instance that there is more than one author and/or artist to a submission, all authors/artists must agree to have their submission taken down.
Authors retain copyright and grant Tourniquet the right of first publication with the author’s work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License. This publication is an open access journal distributed under the terms of the CC-BY-NC-ND license, which allows others to share the work with an acknowledgment of the work's authorship and the initial publication in this journal, provided that the work is not altered in any way or used commercially for a fee. It is not required to obtain permission to distribute this publication if the conditions above are met.
